I heard an interesting explanation of how some Christian music groups come up with their lyrics. One group wanted to put scripture to music but found it very difficult. The answer was to go online and look at listings of translations to find one that would fit the music - right rhyme, etc. There seems to be no consideration as to whether the translation is accurate or true to the text - as long as it is "scripture" and fits the music!
It reminds me of some of our modern day "Best Selling Authors" who pick and choose translations that use the right word of the topic of discussion. The passage may have nothing to do with the topic but finding a translation with the right wording to "link" scripture to the author's exposition is all that matters.
Its time we get back to treating Scripture as God's Word and digging to understand His intended meaning instead of treating the English Bible as a magic book of words that if it can be linquistically connected, brings blessing and understanding. We don't put meaning into Scripture, we need to understand its original intention and follow it.
